The Access Group: Azure Infrastructure Modernisation & Application Migration
Challenge
The Access Group required a modern, scalable, and secure infrastructure to support legacy workloads including .NET applications and SQL databases. Maintaining seamless integration with existing on-premises systems was critical to ensure uninterrupted business operations during migration.
Goal
To modernise infrastructure for scalability, security, and operational efficiency while enabling a smooth, low-impact migration of critical legacy applications to Azure.
Solution
Accelix architected a hub-and-spoke Azure network topology providing secure, scalable connectivity between cloud services and on-premise SQL databases. The migration of legacy applications and databases was phased carefully to minimise downtime. Automation was heavily utilised with Terraform, ARM templates, PowerShell, and Bash to reduce manual errors and speed infrastructure provisioning. CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines improved deployment efficiency and reliability. Azure Security Centre and Azure Policy ensured consistent security baselines across the hybrid environment. Continuous platform support and performance optimisation ensured long-term stability.
Impact
Over the 7-month engagement, The Access Group achieved significant outcomes:
- Successfully migrated core business applications with minimal downtime
- Reduced infrastructure setup and maintenance overhead through automation
- Secured hybrid cloud connectivity between Azure and on-premise systems
- Improved release velocity with CI/CD pipeline automation
- Strengthened overall security posture across cloud resources
